TrueNorth Chamber Orchestra
Symphonic music has been a part of TrueNorth Cultural Arts since its inception. For years appearing as the TrueNorth Symphony, since the hire of Joshua Konow as Music Director in 2013, the ensemble has been known as the TrueNorth Chamber Orchestra. Musicians from around the northeast Ohio area collaborate for a season from September through June offering a wide variety of musical styles. Our goal is to educate, inspire, and move through the power of orchestral performance for the whole community.
The TrueNorth Chamber Orchestra maintains an ensemble anywhere from twenty-five to forty members for each concert depending on the program requirements. The Chamber Orchestra performs numerous solo concerts or with the TrueNorth Chorale, the TrueNorth Big Band, and with other local arts organizations. The ensemble is made up of musicians from all backgrounds. Professionals, amateurs, and students from throughout the area join the TrueNorth Chamber Orchestra for a uniquely intimate ensemble. We offer many opportunities for musicians to be involved closely with administration and invite any interested instrumentalists to audition for the opportunity to be with us!
The Chamber Orchestra presents a wide array of programs primarily focused on classical music, but many performances each year offer very unique programming. We aim to entertain a wide audience from all backgrounds. Highlights from each season include our annual Christmas, Palm Sunday, and Patriotic concerts with the TrueNorth Chorale, solo performances including guest soloists from the Cleveland Orchestra, collaborations with the TrueNorth Main Stage actors, and pops performances with the TrueNorth Big Band. Whether it be your first classical concert, a social event with friends, to a family program where children’s eyes and ears are amazed, the TrueNorth Chamber Orchestra has a concert for all!
The TrueNorth Chamber Orchestra has performed such works as the Dvorak’s Symphonies No.5 and 8, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet as well as his Violin Concerto, Schumann’s Symphony No.3, Debussy’s The Afternoon of a Faun, several works by Aaron Copland, and Corigliano’s Elegy, as well as major works performed with the TrueNorth Chorale like Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, Schubert’s G Major Mass, and Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass. We invite any intermediate to advanced instrumentalist to audition to join the Chamber Orchestra, rehearsing Sundays 7:15-9:30 pm., October through June at Lake Shore United Methodist Church.
