Thursdays 7:30pm – 8:30pm
February 15th – March 22nd
Known as America’s classical music, jazz is a word that can mean different things to different people. It can be scary, boring, cool and fun. Just like many kinds of music, jazz moves you and has an amazing history of just over 100 years. Come and learn about some early styles that led to the influence of some of the most common music of today. From early styles such as dixieland and ragtime to the swing era and beyond, jazz is everywhere and it’s not nearly as confusing or misunderstood as people may believe it to be.
Introduction to Music Theory Instructor: Eric Dregne
Wednesdays 7:30pm – 8:30pm
February 21st – March 28th
There are all kinds of interesting sounds in music. You have heard of the word harmony, but what makes harmony work? That’s music theory! If you’re a student that needs to learn more about theory to pass a high school class, to test out of a beginning college theory course (to save a little money) or you’re a musician who wants to know why certain combinations of notes you play sound good together and some don’t, this is the class for you. You’ll learn about how many different types of musical scales are made, what an interval is and different ways to make them sound, how chords are formed and how to put a set of chords together to make a song.
